Through my work I intend to challenge current ideas about traditional graffiti and street art which are generally found in public spaces. By painting the actual gallery as opposed to “hanging art” in the space the installation offers an alternative perspective about graffiti to the viewer. Although many people view graffiti as a destructive art form and a sign of urban decay, many people have the opposite opinion and have embraced the movement in it's popularity. My installation shows graffiti, while using a seemingly destructive process in a constructive and positive way. Essentially the same techniques normally associated with public graffiti and vandalism are used, but inside of a gallery setting which aims not to change graffiti but to expand the idea of what graffiti is perceived as.
